SURF Deployment: DEFION and DTX Secure 75+ Education and Research Institutions

DTX and DEFION begin rolling out MDR services for SURF. More than 75 Dutch universities, polytechnics and vocational colleges receive 24/7 protection against cyberattacks.
DTX and DEFION Security began rolling out Managed Detection & Response (MDR) services for SURF, the ICT cooperative of the Dutch education and research sector, in March 2026.
Hogeschool Windesheim was the first institution to migrate to the new security service as part of the pilot. The remaining 75+ institutions using SURFsoc for 24/7 monitoring will follow in 2026.
The MDR service brings together DEFION's deep security expertise with DEFION Research Labs' incident response specialists and ethical hackers, combined with the technical capabilities of DTX. Together, we provide a future-proof solution that detects and responds to threats faster.
